I'm going to admit a deep dark dirty secret.
I have lots of diamond jewelry. I have stud earrings that have a TCW (total carat weight for the beginners) of 2 carets. I have a lovely with a 2 Carat center Stone, and one carat stones on either side of it. I am contemplating a new ring, with a square cute diamond with a TCW of 2 carats. These are all set in 14 kt gold.
OK, so here is my dirty little secret.
They aren't real. They are cubic Zirconia's. From QVC no less. Diamonque
What got me started tonight was an email from QVC taunting me with Dimonque Day on Thursday. Of course I had to start looking. This is where I found the new ring I'm contemplating.
So I started reading the reviews. Most were really good. Stuff like, "beautiful", "wonderful". Of course knowing that I am a Dimonique whore, I'm going to believe them, right?
But then, there were the people who wanted to pop my diamond bubble.
There were reviews like. "The stones were really pretty, but too big to look real." or "If you are rich, you can probably pull it off." Darn them. They look too real and too large to look REAL??? What the heck???
It started me thinking, again, what else is new? When Rick and I went to pick out my wedding set, I really wanted to get a CZ. He insisted on a diamond. So, that will be the only one I will have. I have major issues with the diamond industry and how they are mined. The DeBeers company, and the diamond mines in South Africa are not my favorite causes to support with my money.
Then there is the issue of cost. Seriously, the ring I bought from QVC is so pretty. But come on, if I bought the real thing, with stones that size, it would take the same amount of money as it's going to take to send BOTH my kids to Yale...
I don't know about you, but I can think of a million better things to do with that kind of money.
Then, what if I lost it??? What if I lost my ring equal to the value of my kids education?
So I was left thinking about the comments from the other ring buyers such as myself. Is it intrinsically wrong to want a mongo huge diamond ring to show off with?? I keep thinking, "So what if it's too big and pretty too look real?" What would it say about me as a person, to be wearing such jewelry if they were REAL diamonds? I've had a few people ask me if it was real. I wish I could say something like, "yes, it's pretty isn't it?", but I can't do that with a straight face. I would start laughing in the middle of my great lie.
So, the secret is out. I love fake diamonds. I am proud to wear my too large tasteful 14 kt gold fake diamond ring. After all, sparkle is sparkle is sparkle...
You're the only one you have to please, you know. If you like them, who cares who else does or doesn't! I wish I could wear rings period. My arthritis is ruining my love of ring wearing. I have several diamonds, one because my motherinlaw gave me one of hers; Hubby gave me one. But they're not significantly big. I ran out of fingers, that's all.
